ARC Review: Demon Ember by M. J. Haag

Wow. This book. This story. This world pulled me in straight away. It starts quite innocently with tremors in another country and college girl being interested in them. Nothing unusual right? Until the tremors start to happen in US too. And after the tremors weird big dogs start to appear.
By chapter three I had goosebumps. It was getting that good already.
Mya is a normal college student, fighting her way through finals and missing her family. I loved her relationship with her brother. From the beginning you can tell they are close. #Freaksbyblood
I also really liked her way of thinking. She wanted to panic but was pushing it down, but at the same time wasn’t a badass heroine that suddenly knew how to shoot and kill. She was more real.
Ms Haag created a masterpiece of an apocalyptic world. Dog like creatures spreading infection that makes people attack healthy. And HIM. Can you have a crush on a creature not from your normal world? That is not really handsome or hot but has that Something? Well I guess you can because I’m crushing real hard in him.
I cannot wait for the next part. I really want more. Like now please?
Definitely a 5 star read!

ARC Review and release Blitz: Marked by D. Laine

MARKED IS LIVE!

They have prepared their entire lives for this moment, but can they survive it?
For trained assassin Dylan Romero, business is good. As the agency’s top warriors, he and partner Jake Walker are the last two people evil wants to see on the other side of a gun.
When a mission takes them to the college town of Bozeman, Montana, they discover that there is more than just another mark in another town to keep them there. With a heavy concentration of vessels doing their demon masters’ dirty work and flesh-craving monsters lurking around every corner, the secluded Midwest town is set to become the first battleground of the apocalypse.

The last thing Dylan needs is a distraction. With the fate of the world at stake, the life of one girl shouldn’t matter – until the day she changes everything.

Review:

OMG. It’s a long time since I read I really good apocalyptic book which is not part of a series I already started.

Ms. Laine has created a masterpiece that I enjoyed 2 two times already. That’s how much I loved the story.

Marked is set in the world we live now. The main characters are assassins fighting “the others” to prevent them to take over the world and make it a living hell. Literally.

The book is mainly told from POV of Dylan. An assassin who, together with his partner, is cleansing the world from the creatures. I’m not gonna say anymore as you have to read it otherwise I will be spoiling the fun.

I loved the fact that Ms D. Has told the story from male perspective. It’s different to what I normally read.

Dylan is hotheaded. He prefers to act first then ask questions. Which sometimes is funny and other times you just want to shake your head. But even though he is like that he is sexy and yeah all the way #TeamDylan.

Loved it and if I could I would give it more stars.

5 awesome stars.

ARC review: Lorelai, you will never die by Laura Konrad

Lorelai Cover

Small Blurb:

Lorelai is a woman with many stories to tell.

She was just a promiscuous secretary at the county evidence locker. But all that changed with the apocalypse.

She found herself alone and wandering the country in search of something, she just wasn’t sure what. She came across many different types of people along the way, some freaks and some who are just like her trying to survive. Her adventures forced her to adapt in ways she never thought she could, made her feel in ways she never thought she would.

In the apocalypse you either learn to adapt or you die…

Swamp

My thoughts:

I have to admit: the first few chapters got me so confused I almost stopped reading. But I’m so glad I am a stubborn person and I just hate leaving a book unfinished. So I sucked it up and finished it. And I’m so glad I did!

Lorelai, is sarcastic and extremely determined female. One of the few who survived the end of the world. She quickly learns how to survive, but also soon she decides that she wants to LIVE it.

The whole story is a perfection and almost a masterpiece. It’s so different. All the stories are important to show what kind of person Lorelai becomes. And the best thing ever? She never changed her perspective about sex! She likes it and that’s it! She always did and it didn’t change after the world collapsed around her. So she wasn’t suddenly a saint or something.

But what I liked the most? Is the different concept of the Armageddon. It’s not a story how to prevent it, how to save the world, how to save the survivors. No. It’s about pure living after it happened. And I loved it!

amazing 4,5 stars!

My Thoughts:

Copy gifted by the author in exchange for an honest review.

What can I say? WOW! Cameo just gets better and better with her story. Her writing improved so much that it’s even harder to put the book down! I had trouble to stay awake today at work, because I pulled almost a full nighter! But it was SO worth it! The book is simply amazing!

The story is so much more than what I thought at the beginning! With Abi’s new abilities, the new government want to use her to control the Arvies. After Abi is starting to get the newly found injections, things are getting so interested and there is so much more action! It kept me on my toes all the time!

The feelings between Abi and Finn is even stronger than what it was before, even though they were separated. I love that about them. They know that they are perfect for each other and are fighting to be together, but at the same time they don’t forget their responsibilities, so it doesn’t feel like a teenager crush, but a full blown love. Simply as that.

But the best thing here? The best thing in this part is the description of how Abi is growing, maturing and becoming a strong, responsible young woman.

The new characters, the twins are also a vital part of the book and a part of the programme “Reader”, Abi befriends them. After all the conspiracy, secrets and everything that is ugly is revealed Abi finds the strength in her to lead her lead her loved one to safety and to finally find a place for them to be happy.

I can’t wait for the next part(s) of the series and how everything will play out.

Another 5 stars!

Reviews on Previous Parts:

18629550

I wanted to kick myself in a bum that I have not started this book much earlier. I’m asking myself WHY? The book is amazing. I love dystopian books and the concept in Cameo’s book is just perfect.

The beginning of the story starts with a preface that the government knew about the apocalypse, but decided to ignore it? Save only the worthy ones? And because of it it’s even more terrifying that it actually can be true. That THIS can happen.

The main character, Abi, is telling us the story from her POV. It all begun for her, when her dad took them and their neighbours to a safe place, that he created with other people who where survivalist. She was 4 then. After that over a decade passed and they are now ready to return to surface and rebuild the world. But….there is always a but! The injection that were supposed to help people turned them into mutants and now they are simply craving human meat. They are aggressive, mad and simply not human.

When the journey starts and fight for survival begins, the book turns into a fast paced, conspiracy/survivalist book with a bit of a romance.

The characters are amazingly well developed. They are not perfect in everything but every single one of them is good in something. And that’s what makes them a perfect team.

What I love about the world Cameo created? That the mutants are not Zombies, undead. They are very much alive. The book keeps you on the edge of the book, even though the romance part takes you a bit away from the whole action, but I think it was needed. Why? Because it shows that even when everything is destroyed around us, there is a chance to have other feelings. To think only about fighting and surviving.

Amazing, 5 star read!

22458368

The story picks up where the previous part left. It’s so packed with so much more action and feelings. Abi is still being held captive by the new bunkers representatives and she is being questioned regarding some mysterious cases that were happening in here. But what is the worst? She is being threatened by the fellow survivalist. There is no team work here between the other bunkers and it’s disappointing, that even after a huge apocalypse people are still fighting for the power. They are still greedy and don’t tolerate people who are way too curious.

In here we are falling in love with Finn again *sigh*. I love that boy. And what I love more? That the author is not rushing things. The pacing between Abi and Finn is just perfect. Their feeling are blooming naturally, so there is no feeling: because we survived we have to be together. No. It feels like they were destined to be together.

Cameo’s writing is just perfect. The way the story is told, compels you and pulls you in. And believe me. Few times I believed in her world.

Another amazing, perfect book. 5 Stars!

ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

24283704

Small Blurb:

Sixteen-year-old prodigy, Liza Randusky, waits imprisoned, blamed for the undead plague that’s slowly destroying the planet. Banished to an island where she’ll never play her beloved piano again, Liza’s steadfast sense of justice and passion for music may have the power to change her destiny. But will it be enough…

To strike back at the new world order, the troubled son of a preacher, Thomas Ripley-Hatter, suffers unspeakable alterations by the Underground to join a secret Army. Tommy knows that all hope lies in human-weapons like himself, and that somehow he must cling to his sanity…while letting loose the monster to win.

The battle begins for the last-standing sliver of humanity: Anthem.

My thoughts:

It was my first book by Logan and what can I say: WOW! This book is full of so many surprises and twists that you basically sit on the edge the whole book! It’s simply amazing and mesmerizing!

Ale the characters are so different. But at the same time there is something that connects them all.

I love dystopian books. It’s one of my favourite genre and reading a good book with cataclysm makes me appreciate the world we have. even though it’s far from perfect.

I love how the book is told not from the protagonist of the story, but a person who is around them. I don’t know who I love more Jeremy or Tommy. They are both cute and totally loveable.

I would want to say more about the characters and the story, but I think I will spoil the whole book, because simply you just have to meet them by yourself.

I thought that the whole book is just brilliant, but the ending? The ending made me open my mouth in shock! It just makes me want to have the next book like yesterday!

amazing 5 stars, just because I can’t give more!

Unwound by Yolanda Olson (The Symphony of Brass and Bone)

I have received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

WOW! This was my first book by Yolanda, but certainly is not the last! I have fell in love with her writing style!

25065249

Small Blurb:

Unwound is the story of Caelum, created as 3257. Unlike humanity, Caelum describes his birth as something that began with an idea and a stitch; the brainchild of a deranged genius. He is torn for his love between his mother London and his want for freedom. Partially constructed as another one of London’s cruelties, he’s meant to only feel pain and fear. He must decide if escaping from London and her delirium was worth venturing out into the world he knew nothing about other than the small glimpse of life he once saw. As the time passes he has thoughts of going back and possibly destroying her but his time is running out as he notices that he’s beginning to slow down and wither away. Caelum then decides that the only way to keep himself alive, if he can call it that, he must return and confront London to get his hands on the one of her many journals to understand how to survive outside of the walls of her mansion of horror and torture. On the way he meets a young boy who gives him his first genuine gift, an inhuman misfit who gives him his name, a mysterious woman named Morrison whose intentions are never clear to him and more of London’s creations which confirms what he believed all along. That he was never the only one. In the world outside he learns more emotions: revenge, guilt, hope, satisfaction, pity, happiness, pride, and the most powerful; anger. Caelum must make his way back to London as his time is ticking slowly away.

My thoughts:
The story is told from the POV of man. But not a born man. A created one. Created by a Mother, as he is calling her, a madwoman who is finding pleasure in creating part humans, part machines.

The main character, Caelum, is her creation, her little boy. He knows he is not a normal boy, and he knows that his life is not a normal one also. He is not allowed to go outside, look outside. He loves his Mother/creator as she gave him life and there were moments when she was almost civilised to him. But the pain, the tortures are causing his hatred to be a much stronger feeling. Through his journey we get to know him, people and creations like him. He is learning how to trust, how to survive after leaving his Mother.
He is making few friends and learns how to live without her, but after he received a package from his Mother containing part of his first friend he knows he has to kill her. And there is no turning back.

This book is totally different. The style is different. The theme is different! I haven’t read anything like that! Maybe except Frankenstein, but even that is not that good! In my opinion of course!

The only tiny minus are some editing mistakes, but other than that: FREAKING AWESOME book!

5 Stars!

Emerging from Darkness by Kira Adams (#book 2)

I have received an ARC copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. The thoughts are 100% mine and I was not compensated in any way.

I have to say that I feel really lucky that I was able to do firstly beta reading and then I received an ARC of this amazing book! I love, adore and I am simply obsessed with this series! But before I will start my review…

Small Blurb:

25118397

The virus is spreading, the future is uncertain, and the Degenerates are taking control.

Ike Glass and Ace Cullen have found themselves in quite the predicament: the Degenerates have located their hideout and kidnapped Phoenix and Rian, and now they must fight for their lives. Phoenix Blue knows she must tread carefully if she expects to keep her sister alive. What she doesn’t expect is the strength her young sister possesses, and the lengths her newfound family will go to in order to save their lives. Sometimes the ties that bind us have nothing to do with blood relations. Just how far will these four friends go in their quest to emerge from the darkness?

My thoughts:

The book picks up straight after first book has finished. Phoenix and Rian have been kidnapped by degenerates. Ike, Cullen and Foster are kneeling in front of the remaining degenerates expecting being shot or wounded and left for Zombies to get them. The first option is better for them. But even though their situation seems to be hopeless, Cullen is not giving up. And soon they are free and have a hostage. Because Cullen is wounded, they have to wait few days before they will start their rescue mission.

In the meantime, Phoenix is treated like a walking blood bag and is connected to IV to take all her blood and start producing the cure. She still hopes that her friends, Ike and Ace will survive and help her, but it’s her sister, Rian that is freeing them. They go back to their previous location, but unfortunately neither Cullen or Ike are there. Sisters decide to look refuge in one of the prisons. What they don’t know, Ike and Cullen decided to do the same. Unfortunately, they haven’t picked the same one. One of the prison is like a heaven, but other is full of degenerates.

In this book we have as in previous part, fighting for survival, violence, friendship, love and drama. death of some characters just broke me and I was sobbing. What I love the most about this part? It’s more Ike’s and Cullen stories, so we are able to get to know them a bit better. Also I love how Phoenix opens up to Cullen, and also his feelings. Simply amazing.

Can’t wait for next part. Well deserved 5 stars!

And what is more now, the first part is FREE! So go and grab your copy!

Into the Darkness by Kira Adams

I have received an ARC copy of this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.

Small Blurb:

23563659

It was supposed to be a way to end the devastation in the Middle East, but instead a darkness is unleashed unlike anything the world has ever seen before.

Ike Glass is well versed in chaos, but even he is unprepared for what the world will become after the outbreak. Ace Cullen has been loyal to his country ever since he was brought to the states as a young boy, but it’s difficult to stand by a country that can’t even take responsibility for their own actions. Phoenix Blue just wants a night of mindless sex… is that too much to ask? Always a black sheep, she shocks everyone as she finds the strength inside herself to protect the ones she cares about, and fight to see another day. They were strangers when the virus took over, but tragedy will bring them together in ways they never thought possible as they descend into the darkness.

My thoughts:

OMFG! This was AMAZING! Simply as that! I have read it in 2 days only because I had to pause to get something to eat, sleep and go to work! Brilliant dystopian novel, and I can honestly say that it’s as good as Tara Brown’s books! And it says a lot!

Into the Darkness is telling us a story form few POVs: Phoenix, Ike and Ace (Cullen). All are strong characters and have instincts to simply survive.

The story: it all begins with Ike and Ace, both military guys, trained to kill and survive, are called to Area 51 Lab to see a new weapon. What they see is not what they expect. It’s horrible, bloody and simply inhumane. After this, the so called weapon, which in truth is a biological sickness is spread within hours across US. They get separated and Ike is determined to find his family and save them.

For Phoenix it started differently. After the disease has been already known and when Government tried to make people stay in their houses, locked and prepared for anything, she rebels and goes for…a date. Once she comes back home in the morning, nothing is the same and her instinct to survives kicks in. After fighting to get away from her sick family she meets Ike. Together they try to survive and find Phoenix little sister, Rian, who is in boarding school.

I really liked the story, even though you have a feeling that you have already read such book, but characters are different and also Phoenix is such kickass heroine that it just makes you want MORE!

I just can’t wait for next part as after that AMAZING cliffhanger (I do love good cliffhangers!) I am just on edge to find out what happened next!

Well deserved 5 stars!
