Books worth reading….

Once a week I will post a short entry of books that I think are worth reading 🙂

Today we have lovely Ms Ednah Walters and her Runes Series 🙂

The books are put in reading order!

1. Runes

runes

The Amazon bestseller that launched the RUNES series introduced readers to RAINE and TORIN.

Seventeen-year-old Raine Cooper has enough on her plate dealing with her father’s disappearance, her mother’s erratic behavior and the possibility of her boyfriend relocating. The last thing she needs is Torin St. James—a mysterious new neighbor with a wicked smile and uncanny way of reading her.

Raine is drawn to Torin’s dark sexiness against her better judgment, until he saves her life with weird marks and she realizes he is different. But by healing her, Torin changes something inside Raine. Now she can’t stop thinking about him. Half the time, she’s not sure whether to fall into his arms or run.

Scared, she sets out to find out what Torin is. But the closer she gets to the truth the more she uncovers something sinister about him. What Torin is goes back to an ancient mythology and Raine is somehow part of it. Not only is she and her friends in danger, she must choose a side, but the wrong choice will cost Raine her life

2. Immortals

immortals

Nothing can stop Raine Cooper when she wants something…
Raine finally knows that her gorgeous neighbor, Torin St. James, is a legend straight out of Norse mythology, and that her feelings for him are strong. Torin is crazy about Raine too, breaking the one rule he lives by: Never fall for a mortal. The problem is he no longer remembers her, his memories erased by Norns—Norse destiny deities—to punish her for defying them.

So Raine comes up with a plan…
She will make Torin forget his one rule a second time and fall in love with her all over again.
But she quickly learns that well-laid plans do not work when dealing with deities and supernatural beings. Desperate, Raine makes choices that could not only tear her and Torin further apart, but lead to the destruction of everything and everyone she loves

2.5 Grimnirs

18339548

**The series number for this book is in chronological order. This is a full-length book of the “Runes” series**

Straight out of the psych ward, Cora just wants her life to be normal. She doesn’t want to see souls or the reapers collecting them. The guy she’s loved from a distance for years moves away without saying goodbye. So yes, she’s nursing a serious heartbreak. It’s no wonder love is the last thing on her mind when Echo storms into her life.

The chemistry between them is mind-blowing.The connection defies logic. Even better, the souls leave her alone when he is around.

Too bad Echo is the poster boy for everything she hates in a guy—hot, beautiful, and cocky. He is also a soul reaper. A Grimnir.
The very beings she wants out of her life. Maybe normal is overrated because Cora wants it all. Answers. Love. A life.

3. Seeress

23124916

Eighteen-year-old Cora Jemison knows what it’s like to date a soul reaper. There are no Friday night movies, no school dances, and no stolen kisses between classes. It totally sucks! What makes it even worse, souls pop up when she least expects it. The last one is not her fault, but it all adds up to zero quality time with her super hot, scythe-carrying boyfriend, Echo.

Since Cora was etched with special runes by an evil Immortal, she understands why souls are drawn to her. She makes the best of it by helping souls find closure while Echo escorts them to the realm of the dead. Perfect partners, until a dark soul visits Cora in the dead of the night and Echo decides her soul-helping days are over.

Cora can either listen to Echo or follow her instincts. To make matters worse, other reapers start stalking her, demanding she hand over the soul. Even her Valkyrie friends think she’s gone too far. But something sinister is coming their way, and the soul is the key to saving her town, her friends, and her relationship with Echo. Can she convince Echo to see things her way before it’s too late?

4. Witchescoming March 17th!

23124956

Raine Cooper’s life should be perfect. She’s an Immortal Seeress, most likely to be elected Prom Queen, and envied by the girls at Kayville High for dating the dreamy quarterback, Torin St. James. Instead, she’s haunted by the smug facial expressions the Norns’ wore during their last meeting.

As a Norn-In-Training, Raine crossed the line long ago when she sided with the Valkyries and Mortal Witches. When the Norns return with demands of their own, Raine feels trapped. She must repair the battle grounds and wipe out the memories of every Mortal witness. Torin tries to convince her that the Norns are manipulating her, but she refuses to listen. At least until the Norns’ demands focus on someone she loves. When Raine refuses to cooperate with them, their punishment is swift and gut-wrenching, turning her pain into fury.

Raine plots revenge on a massive scale and makes deals with unsavory allies. Her goal? Total destruction of the entire Norn race. Raine’s only hope of salvation is Torin, but how much will he sacrifice to save her?

The Bridal Chair by Gloria Goldreich is telling us a story about life of an artist, Marc Chagall, through the eyes of his daughter, Ida.

Ida is describing her eccentric father, his artistic way of living and also her overprotective parents. As the story progresses, we can see that the author tries to show the reader through the eyes of young Ida the scenery of politics, art, culture of france and USA during the War. She perfected the description of Paris in 1920s, where young artists came from all over the world to learn and show their art.

The first part of the story was the most interesting for me, where Marc Chagall, full…

Cold Blood by Heather Hildenbrand (Dirty Blood Series, book 2)

I have received an ARC copy of this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.

Small Blurb:

Wood Point Academy is not at all what I expected. For one thing, it looks like a cross between military school and Buckingham Palace. Everyone stares, the floors shine so bright you can see your reflection in them from a mile away, and no one smiles. Unless they’re kicking your butt in the process.

At least I’ve got plenty to take my mind off the fact that my psycho cousin, Miles De’Luca, keeps calling and declaring his love and promising to come for me just as soon as he’s destroyed anyone standing in our way. Wes isn’t going to like that idea. So between Miles, Wood Point’s evil welcoming committee, and the drill sergeant hottie trainer from hell, I just keep asking myself, how did I end up here?

My thoughts:

Cold Blood is a second part of the series, that I started to love. Tara is fun, a bit mean and snarky, but also she is honest and not judgemental. I love that about her. She is not condemning all Weres, just because she is a Hunter. She believes that not all of them are insane and want to kill everyone. She wants to help everyone, but being part of prophecy is leaving her  a bit stressed.

After Tara is shipped to her new school, she is not able to blend in. Being new student in a new school, where you don’t know anyone is tough, but being new in a school where everyone is better in combat and hates her because of what she is, is like a living nightmare. She tries to not be affected by hatred and mean  popular girls (even in paranormal school you get THOSE), but being away from home, friends and Wes is hard for her. She miss them. She miss him. And it doesn’t help that he is not returning her emails. There is no news from him. And she again feels like everyone just keeps everything from her. To not help her misery, her new, HOT, trainer is disgusted in what she is (at least that’s what she thought). But once all Hell break through and Miles is reappearing, claiming that they are destined to be together and rule the world, she learns that Alex is not disgusted nor he hates her. After their short moment, she feels guilty, but also confused about her feelings. After Wes decides to meet her suddenly, he is not showing up just to SEE HER, but has a motive and after that Tara is hurt, betrayed and sways even more toward Alex, who believes in her and knows she can handle herself, not like overprotective Wes, who is doubting her and her skills.

The whole situation gets even more complicated, with Miles and his secret project, and also uncontrollable rage that Tara feels.  What is worse…once she is overtaken by it she can’t remember a thing….

But I can’t forget about the supporting characters! Cambria and Logan! I love them, they are so funny and so different! Cambria is so funny and I just love that she just wants to stir trouble hahah Logan is that hot Nerd guy, with unhealthy unrequited love 😀 I really hope we will see more of them!

In this part characters are so much better developed. I loved first book, but this? This one is like WOW! I can’t wait to start the next part, which is waiting for me right now 😀

**** Cover reveal of Broken Blood by Heather Hildenbrand (The Dirty Blood series, book 5) ****

How do you defeat an enemy that knows your every thought … even as you think it?

 cold blood 1

I thought watching my Werewolf boyfriend get arrested for murder was the worst experience of my life. But then I was knocked out and dragged off to a cell of my own by the very people who were supposed to protect me from danger.

I thought being held prisoner in solitary confinement for weeks on end was the worst experience of my life. But then a visitor came, and I realized I’d been wrong all along. There are worse things than torture and death. Much worse.

He wants my blood. More than that, he wants to get into my head. To use my bond to control his army, to wipe the world clean of anything with dirty blood. I can’t let that happen, but if I don’t he’ll kill every single person I’ve ever cared about—beginning with my Werewolf pack.

The prophecy said I would have to make an impossible choice, but I must be doing this wrong—so far every choice I’ve made has only led to more pain and danger and death. Hunters are pitted against Werewolves and I’m alone in my war against Gordon Steppe. I can’t fight him off anymore; all I can do is try to keep him out of the important places. And I’m failing at even that.

I thought the demons were out there, clearly marked and clinging to the shadows. But they’re not. The monsters are within the ranks of those sworn to protect. The enemy is among us.

Excerpt

“Come on…just one piece of bacon.”

“No.” I move my plate toward me, and away from him.

“Aww, come on, baby. You know you wanna give me some.”

Baby?

I feel that word wash through me like an erotic cleansing.

Pressing my thighs and lips together, I shake my head. “Nope. Your smooth Irish charm won’t work on

me.”

Grinning, he gives me a look straight from the sex devil. “Aww, Andressa. Baby. If you give me some…I’ll

make it worth your while. It can be our little secret. I won’t tell anyone, I promise.”

“How do you manage to make a conversation about bacon sound dirty?”

“I’d say it’s a talent…but maybe it’s not me that’s dirty and it’s you. After all, you are the one

interpreting it that way.”

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000039_00014]

Seduce by Jennifer Snyder (Succubus Kiss, #1)

I have received an ARC copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

24266465

Small blurb:

Life isn’t so bad for succubus, Kenna Blake. True, she seems to be the only succubus with a conscience and a specific strategy for finding her male meals, but she has a cute new apartment, a budding graphic design business, and the most unique friends she’s ever had.

Her personal love life, however, is non-existent.

Until the legendary vampire Randal Vincent sweeps into her life. Even though he isn’t someone she set out to date, at least she can kiss him without killing him. But when you’re dating someone who’s the inspiration for Dracula, there are bound to be a few hiccups along the way…

My thoughts:
I have really enjoyed this book. The story line is interesting and characters well developed.

We have met Kenna Blake in Jennifer’s short story: Seductions Kiss, where we found out what she truly is. A Succubus feeding off sexual desires. But what makes her different is that she has a conscience, and she is not choosing any male that feels something for her. She is rather picky.

One day, during a blind date set up by her friend, she meets Randal a Vampire that makes her feel so much more. But like in any relationship, not everything is perfect and they have to fight for their love.

It was a brilliant, quick and pleasant read. I can’t wait for the next book.

***More proper review to come within the next couple of days****

Amplify by Anne Mercier (Rockstar Series, book 3)

I have received an ARC copy of this book from an author in exchange of an honest review.

23485675

Small Blurb:

If you’re unable to suspend disbelief and escape to the Rockstar Land of Fiction, then this book probably isn’t for you.
As with all the Rockstar books, this book contains mature content and is inappropriate for persons under 18 years of age.
This story contains grief, loss, sadness, darkness, light, happiness, angst, swearing, explicit sex, graphic violence, new beginnings, and soulmates.
I recommend listening to the playlist whenever possible to get the full effect of the story. You may need tissues.

SERA
He’s my protector, my confidante. Then one night he became more. I want him, I need him, and, if I’m honest with myself, I love him. I just don’t know if he’ll ever see me as more than what we’ve always been: friends. I don’t want to lose him but it’s getting harder and harder to keep my feelings to myself. Should I risk it all or play it safe?

CAGE
She’s my light, my saving grace. The night we came together I knew I could never live without her. I want her to be mine: my lover, my friend. Maybe, if I can get her to see past all the reasons why we shouldn’t be together, she’ll be my forever. It just might be time to turn it up and go for broke.

My thoughts:
What can I say? She did again! But this time she didn’t put together a sweet love with a little drama. NO this time she went all in and I was crying and sobbing like a lunatic. She broke my heart so many times in this book. But Sera’s and Cage’s love put it back together.

Sera is an ex model and a part of Blush group, but she is not only a pretty face and hell of a body, she is loyal, honest, hot tempered and would kill anyone who would dare to threaten her family or anyone she loves. From Being a sweet girl, after her parent murder she changes and she build a wall around herself that no one is able to penetrate. Until she meets Cage, who fast becomes her best friend, but few years had to pass until she decides to act on her true feelings toward him. And it’s not easy. When Sera finally decides to trust him and give herself to him, she is hurt and runs away from him and everyone.

But cage, oh that damn handsome man, is not having any of that. He finally made her his and he is not planning to let her go. Ever. Cage, is the same as Sera. Loyal to people he loves, honest and protective. Everyone thinks of him as of a successful businessman, but only few knows his true nature – that he can be cold, ruthless and he can kill without batting an eye. But when he loves, he loves to death and with passion. And that’s how he loves Sera.

This book was so emotional, so many things happened. Good and bad. Anne amazingly showed how the BFD are staring to be a real family and whenever anyone of them is in need, danger they are all there to help and support.

Of course, the best character? Xan MY man…God I just love that guy, he never ever stops to amaze me of how kind and loving he really is.

I can’t wait for next part and all other that are to come! Brilliant job Anne!

P.S. I loved the song choice!

Dirty Bad Wrong by Jade West

**Warning – this novel contains graphic sex, and hardcore elements of BDSM. There are scenes of violence (consensual) as well as sexual practices some readers may find offensive.

If you aren’t turned on by dirty bad wrong sex then please walk on by. Thank you.***

Small Blurb:

They call him Masque.
I call him God.
The man I want to consume me, own me, break me and corrupt me.
Yet I’ve never seen his face.
His body ripples like an adonis, sculpted in steel and dripping in sin. His flesh is inked with the mark of the chimera – one body, two very different halves.
He plays hard.
He plays rough.
He has no limits.
He’s so fucking dirty bad wrong.
But I love him for it.

***

Lydia Marsh is always the strong one. The girl who never breaks, and sure as hell never cries. She’s got it all – the perfect little life in cosy suburbia, with her perfectly nice boyfriend, and their perfectly sufficient sex life. She’s even got her perfect little career plan all wrapped up at Trial Run Software Group.

But when it all falls apart, and Lydia’s pretty, green eyes are fixed on a brutally sexual stranger – the man they call Masque – she comes to suspect that being strong isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

For now Lydia wants something she’s never wanted before…

And she wants Masque to give it to her.

My thoughts:
Before you even start thinking about buying this book please be aware that it’s DIRTY, BAD and SO WRONG. The sex scenes are detailed and not your usual steamy, panting encounters. You have to have strong will to read every single page of this book, every single description. Some of you will think that’s hot, and some of you will think it’s sick. I think that this book makes you all dirty and naughty in a good way. I am not into kinky stuff, but boy…this book made me feel so much that I was blushing…A LOT.

In here we meet Lydia Marsh, young woman who just left her boyfriend after he screwed some co-worker and got her pregnant. She was lost, betrayed and did not know what to do. She came to office early and was wondering what to do with her luggage that she tried to hide under her desk. She received help from the office Mr Perfect, James Clark, who everyone admires from a far. Mr Clark is extremely private and does not talk to co-workers about his personal life. And there is secret why he doesn’t. A dark, filthy secret. But seeing Lydia’s green eyes and so full of tears, makes him want her.

As they both feel the pull, they try to stay professional at all times. Few business trips, helping Lydia to find a roommate, James want to break one rule he set for himself: Fuck no one you know, know no-one you fuck. He wants her and he wants her badly. And Lydia wants him, but she doesn’t know that under this whole composure of perfect mannerism and strict order, there is a beast inside him, that only one thing can satisfy. The only thing is: dirty, filthy sex. Breaking a woman and making her cry.

After Lydia is introduced to a special, VIP club, he realises that she is submissive and she wants to submit to two men only: James and Masque. After the truth is revealed about true colours of James, their relationship starts and James is more happy to help push Lydia to her limit and to make her cry.

This book so HOT. I never knew that such sex can turn you on so much. I am looking forward to next books by Jade.

Cole Stanton and Lily Edmonds are both starting over. Will the joy of the holiday season bring them together or will the troubles with Christmas push them apart?

My thoughts:

Weekend with The Tycoon

From all the books from the series of Indigo Island, this one was the one that I liked the most.

Samantha is an intelligent and career oriented young woman, that is trying to progress quickly in Blake’s Genetics. One day she is called to the office of the CEO, Blake Putnam. Boss who is always reserved and treats everyone with distance. She is sure that the meeting is either regarding her latest presentation or she is simply fired. Once she enters the office, Blake is telling her she has been chosen by him to help him with new project this weekend. Sends her off to acquire new clothes and be prepared to leave the city with him this afternoon. After mind blowing shopping spree, she is told about the real reason of the trip: His Sister’s WEDDING. She feels deceived and is not happy about that, but also she sees her opportunity to show him her newest project.

Blake to some seems to be a cold and reserved man, but truth is that he just doesn’t trust woman after his ex-girlfriend broke his heart. After that relationship he decided that he doesn’t need anyone and he just concentrate on his company. In addition, his family – even though he loves them dearly – add to his misery. His mother tries to set him up every single time he is going to family gathering and his father is not able to understand his vision of being a “tree-hugger”. He decides to at least prevent one thing from happening: having his mother set him up for another date. He takes Samantha Jones with him and hopes they can pull off a fake relationship in front of his family and also work on new presentation. But he doesn’t expect his brilliant plan to backfire, when he start to have feeling towards Sam.

Quickly both realise that they have more in common and that both of them are just lonely.

I loved Sam’s snarky comments towards Blake to rile him up and make him joke with her.

A really enjoyable read 🙂

Lines in the sand

Where to start. I would give this book 3.5 to 4 stars. It had a really good potential to be an amazing book, but I just couldn’t get a real feeling of the main characters.

Dorsey, is running away from her tragic past and unhappy break-up. She moves to Indigo Island to ensure no one knows her and no one has any knowledge of the scandal that was part of her childhood years. She loves children and is employed as head of children club in one of the resorts on the Island. There she meets Jack, handsome lifeguard and a man with his own demons.

Jack, is a lifeguard in the resort, who after summer passes will be employed in the management. He is trying to gain experience and open in the future his own hotel. He wants to make his mother proud and also pay her back for the tragedy he thinks he caused years ago.

Both of them feel the pull towards each other, but they have one person who is oppose their relationship: Steve, manager of the resort, who is all about following the policy. They don’t know that there is more to him, something that is dark and dangerous.

I liked the story, but it left me a bit unsatisfied. I would like to know what caused Steve to be the person he was.

I have received and ARC copy of this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.

I have enjoyed this book. It was a pleasant quick read for today’s afternoon.

The Trouble with Christmas

In here we meet Lily, a pastry chef who was just dumped by her fiancé, with whom she has been for 5 years. What is more, he is getting married just few weeks after he broke up with her with a simple text: Sorry. After her best friend hears what happens she is taken by her and her Family, to Indigo Island for Christmas. There she meets Cole. An ex-banker from Wall Street, who tries to repay his sins by helping others on the Island.

Cole moved to Indigo Island after one of his investments falls through and his clients are faced with loss and tragedy. He blames himself and tries to repay his sins by buying a family restaurant from Sally Ann, whose nephew run away with all her savings and money from the restaurant. Quickly he realises that he has no idea about this industry and is faced with business that just went from bad to worse. And then he meets Lily, who decides to help him.

Both of them have past that is making them careful about trusting others, but they can’t deny the pull they feel towards each other. Quickly they give up to it and together they fight to save the restaurant.

The story had so much potential to be great, but the romance was way too quick for me and especially the ending. And also I managed to get better glimpsed of Avery character then the full picture of Cole or Lily, but other than that I really liked it.

The stories were well written, but I think Kaira could concentrate a bit more on the characters, so reader could get better insight in their personalities, because for me I only managed to see them from the perspective of their tragic events in their past. And for me all the romances where developed well too quickly, but I do think they are good and well deserve 4 stars from me 🙂
